From Billboard Star to Forever Home: Jimmy’s Story
Many of you may already recognize this handsome face — and for good reason. Jimmy’s journey with On A Mission KC began in July 2023, when he was just hours away from being euthanized at Wichita Animal Services. His story captured hearts across Kansas City and beyond — and now, it has the happiest ending we could have imagined.
Saving Jimmy
I’ll never forget the emptiness in Jimmy’s eyes when I first saw him in his kennel. He knew his time was running out, and it broke my heart. I called my team and said, “We have to save Jimmy’s life.” An hour later, Jimmy was in my backseat, heading back to Kansas City.
From that day on, Jimmy became part of our family at On A Mission KC. He was resilient, loving, and full of personality. He quickly became a favorite among staff and volunteers, known for his playful spirit and his gentle, comforting nature. But despite the love and care he received, he kept waiting — over 600 days — for the perfect home.
Jimmy’s Big Break: The Billboard
Jimmy’s story took a dramatic turn when he became a billboard star.
Jimmy’s face lit up Wornall Road right next to Pampered Paws Grooming at 7719 Wornall Rd. He was out there, watching the world go by, waiting for someone to finally see him and say, “That’s my dog.”
That billboard wasn’t just a sign — it was a lifeline. It was a desperate plea for a second chance, a beacon of hope for a dog who had been waiting far too long. And it worked.

After 625 days of waiting, Jimmy’s moment finally arrived. A wonderful woman, moved by his story, scheduled a meet and greet. The moment she saw him, she knew he was the one.
She watched Jimmy chase toys and curl up in her lap — and it was love at first sight. Jimmy knew it too. After patiently waiting for so long, he had finally found his person. ❤️
