Paws & Claws Charity Drive 2024

Join the Mission to Save Shelter Pets!

For 12 days, we’re on a mission to raise $25,000 to support emergency medical care for shelter pets. On A Mission KC is committed to helping rural shelters and their animals during critical times of need. With the overwhelming number of pets requiring medical attention, many rural shelters lack the funding to provide the life-saving care these animals deserve.

This campaign is the first step toward creating a sustainable fund that ensures no pet in need is left behind. Your participation in this drive isn’t just a donation—it’s a lifesaving act for vulnerable pets.

Why This Campaign Matters

Rural shelters often face the heartbreaking reality of having to turn away animals in critical need of medical care due to limited funding. These shelters are often the last line of hope for many pets, and without the necessary resources, they are forced to make difficult choices. The Paws & Claws Charity Drive aims to change that by establishing a sustainable emergency medical fund, ensuring that no pet is denied life-saving treatment.

Our Goal: $25,000 and Beyond

Our goal of raising $25,000 will provide immediate funding to respond swiftly to emergencies—saving lives without delay. While we will still need to raise funds on a case-by-case basis, this fund ensures we can act quickly when it matters most.

Each emergency case ranges from $6,000 to $10,000. Although we receive support through case-by-case fundraising, we frequently have to dip into our general fund to cover the remaining medical expenses. This campaign is essential to ensure we never have to say "no" to a pet in need.

With your help, we can ensure that no pet is denied the care they desperately need.

Your Impact Will Help Us:

  • Create a sustainable emergency medical fund that shelters can rely on during crises.

  • Empower rural shelters to rescue, heal, and rehome more animals in need.

  • Break down financial barriers so no pet is left untreated due to a lack of resources.

Real Stories, Real Impact

In 2024, On A Mission KC handled 20 emergency medical cases, raising over $120,000 to provide life-saving care for shelter pets in critical need. These stories represent just a few of the many lives transformed thanks to the generosity of supporters:

Mia’s Miracle

Mia, a three-year-old Terrier, was tragically hit by a truck after being abandoned by her previous owner. With severe injuries and medical bills totaling over $10,000, humane euthanasia seemed inevitable—until we stepped in. Thanks to your support, Mia received life-saving care, and her miraculous recovery is a testament to the power of compassion. Your generosity was the difference between life and death for Mia.

Jimmy’s Journey

Meet Jimmy, a playful and affectionate 3-4-year-old Terrier mix who loves being the center of attention. Despite his vibrant personality, Jimmy has spent 18 long months in the shelter system, patiently waiting for his forever home. Thanks to On A Mission KC, nearly $30,000 has been invested in emergency medical care and boarding to save Jimmy's life, ensuring he wasn’t euthanized.

Now healthy and full of life, Jimmy resides at The Pet Connection, a premier board-and-train facility in Raytown, MO, where he is well cared for and loved. But Jimmy is still searching for a permanent family to call his own.

The cost of maintaining Jimmy's care is growing, placing a strain on our nonprofit’s resources. With more emergency cases coming in, we’re at risk of depleting funds for his boarding, and every dollar spent here is money that could go toward saving other animals in need. Yet, we refuse to give up on Jimmy. We know his perfect home is out there—will you be the one to give Jimmy the loving family he deserves?

Mellow’s Rescue

Mellow was saved in the nick of time from death row at a Wichita shelter. His quiet, gentle nature touched our hearts immediately. Like Jimmy, Mellow has been in the shelter system for 18 months, and we’ve spent $30,000 on his medical care. Mellow is now in a loving foster home, but he’s still waiting for a permanent family to call his own.

These stories remind us why the Paws & Claws Charity Drive is so important. Each donation helps provide emergency medical care for pets like Mia, Jimmy, and Mellow, ensuring they get the second chance they deserve.

A Heartbreaking Reality: The Urgent Need for Emergency Medical Care

In 2024, On A Mission KC faced an overwhelming number of emergency cases. Sadly, for the first time, we had to turn away a pet in crisis due to a lack of funds—and the result was devastating: Duke didn’t make it.

Duke, a playful one-year-old Boxer from Bethany, MO, needed emergency surgery for an intestinal obstruction. His owner, Peggy, did everything she could, seeking care and financial assistance. But after days of Duke growing weaker and no funds for surgery, Peggy turned to us, desperate to save him.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t help in time. Duke passed away, leaving behind a grieving family and a stark reminder of why your support is so vital.

When you donate to the Paws & Claws Charity Drive, you’re not just giving money—you’re giving hope and a second chance at life. Let’s ensure no more pets like Duke are lost due to a lack of resources.
